Today’s devotion is brought to you by Kathryn Noble
If I could ask God one thing about Heaven, I would want to know whether my dog, Cleo will be there too. At different points in my life, I would have asked other questions which were important to me at the time. Will my dad be there? What types of songs will we sing? Just how big will my mansion be? Will I have a room dedicated to shoes? Small details.
In today’s reading, the Saducees try to entangle Jesus in His own teachings about marriage and Heaven. If a woman marries multiple times, after being widowed by each husband, who would she be married to when she gets to Heaven. Of course, they underestimate Jesus and overestimate their own intelligence. Small details.
We live in a world surrounded by many distractions and comforts, things that become an integral part of our lifestyles, relationships that require a commitment of the heart. These are given to us for this life. Many are a part of God’s plan for our lives here and now. But Jesus understood the difference between this world and Heaven. When we are in the presence of God, all other things fall away. We will be captivated by the beauty, majesty, awe and wonder of our heavenly Father. Our intimacy will be with Him. First and foremost, God sees us as worthy and allows us to have ressurection life. The important details of this life fall away in the next life.
I can only imagine when that day comes
And I find myself standing in the Son
I can only imagine when all I will do
Is forever, forever worship you
I can only imagine,
Surrounded by your glory
What will my heart feel
Will I dance for you Jesus
Or in awe of you be still?
Will I stand in your presence
Or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah
Will I be able to speak at all?
I can only imagine
